Update being provided by Chief Deputy Robert Boyce of the Berrien County Sheriffs Office.

The Berrien County Sheriffs Office is releasing the names of the two individuals that were occupying the 2007 Ford Fusion.

The Driver of this vehicle was Dub Alan Collins, Male, Age 53, a resident of the Township of Buchanan and is currently being held on a Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Detainer. Collins is hospitalized in stable condition at Memorial Hospital in South Bend  for treatment of the injuries he sustained in this crash.

The passenger of the 2007 Ford Fusion was Heather Renee Collins, Female, Age 39, a resident of the Township of Buchanan and is currently hospitalized in stable condition at Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of the injuries she sustained in this crash.

The police report and investigative findings will be forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office in the next few days for review, so that a determination can be made on possible additional criminal charges being sought against Dub Collins.

(8-2-19) The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened on N. Main and Miller Road in Buchanan Township on 8/2/19 at 12:07 pm.  A 2007 Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed on Miller Road when it is believed to have disregarded a stop sign striking a southbound 2000 Honda Accord.

The driver and passenger of the 2007 Ford Fusion were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Alcohol and speed appears to be a factor in the investigation.

There were four individuals in the 2000 Honda Accord.  All four occupants were deceased.

The individuals in the 2000 Honda Accord have been identified as:

  • Driver – Robert Klint (66) Sawyer.
  • Passenger – Kent Williamson (52) Virginia
  • Passenger – Melissa Klint (60) Sawyer
  • Passenger – Landyn Klint (22) Sawyer

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit was activated.  A detailed report will be submitted to the Berrien County Prosecutors Office once it has been completed.
