(10-25-18) On October 24, 2018 at 8:02 pm, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of M-140 and 48th Ave, (“aka” County Line Rd) in Berrien County for a pickup truck vs motorcycle collision.  Upon arrival police found the motorcycle driver on the ground semi-conscious.   He was taken to Lakeland Hospital, Watervliet where he later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Investigators learned that a motorcycle, driven by Bobby Tanner, 70, of Bangor,  was northbound on M-140 approaching 48th Ave.  An eastbound pickup driven by Steven Riggs, 34, of Watervliet, was crossing M-140 and pulled into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle could not avoid striking the rear of the pickup.

The Berrien County Sheriffs Traffic Crash unit is continuing its investigation.  Once the investigation is complete, a report will be forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutors Office for review.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
