On 6-26-19 at 10:03 am, Berrien County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a female struggling in the Dowagiac River, above the Pucker Street Dam, in Niles Twp.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene, and found a female in the water, above the dam (upstream), clinging to the side of the dam.
Niles Twp Fire/Rescue and Niles City Fire/Rescue were able to pull the female to safety within approximately 25 minutes of call time. The female rescued was a 34 year old out of Chicago, IL. She had been tubing with friends along the river, and had become trapped along the dam. The rescued female had been wearing a PFD (life-jacket), was uninjured, and declined transport to the hospital.
