(9-21-18) For the past 6 years Berrien County and Van Buren County have had an inter local agreement for Berrien County Treasurers office to assist Van Buren County Treasurer office examine potential fraudulent homestead claims. During this time millions of dollars have been returned to public education for school in Van Buren County. With the success of the program both Berrien County Treasurer Bret Witkowski and Van Buren Treasurer Karen Mc Kay ask both Board of Commissioner board to extend the agreement another 6 years, of which both boards have passed the new agreement.
This agreement between Berrien County and Van Buren County is the only in the State of Michigan.
