(6-14-23) On day 1 of the OBS June Sales one of the top sellers was Esperon out of Florida standing stallion Chitu and Louisiana bred Satan’s Mistress. The 2-year old went for $165,000 after impressing last week in the Under Tack quarter.
Chitu stands for just $2,000 at Bridlewood Farm in Florida. He offers a quality bloodline back through several generations. Chitu is a Northern Dancer line stallion out of Henny Hughes. On his dam side is Sea Gift out of A.P. Indy whose sire was Seattle Slew, his mom was Weekend Surprise by Secretariat.
Satan’s Mistress has a bloodline that feature numerous international ancestors including his grandsire from Brazil Sandpit (BRZ) foaled October 9, 1989 ( Baynoun (IRE) – Sand Dancer (FR), by Green Dancer).
Hip No. 347, Esperon, a son of OBS graduate Chitu consigned by Silvestre Chavez Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Champion Equine LLC for $165,000. The bay colt, who sped an Under Tack quarter last Tuesday in a track record equaling :20 1/5, is out of stakes placed Louisiana bred Satan’s Mistress, by Songandaprayer, a daughter of stakes winner Sheza Nasty Lady.

It is not always about the cost of the stud fee ($2,000), or the price that was paid for the horse at the auction…this is one of those times. The Belmont was won this week by a yearling that was purchased for just $37,000.
Lessons can be learned.
