(6-1-23) It all started when I saw this tweet —
Rombauer (Twirling Candy (USA) x Cashmere (USA), by Cowboy Cal (USA))
Race record
8 starts, 3 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds, US $1,040,500
2020:
- 2nd American Pharoah Stakes (USA-G1, 8.5FD, Santa Anita)
2021:
- Won Preakness Stakes (USA-G1, 9.5FD, Pimlico)
- Won El Camino Real Derby (USA-L, 9FA, Golden Gate)
- 3rd Belmont Stakes (USA-G1, 12FD, Belmont)
- 3rd Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (USA-G1, 9FD, Keeneland)
You have to love the story of Rombauer…his owner John Fradkin, who bred and raced the colt in partnership with his wife Diane.
I identify with the Fradkin’s in a small way. As an owner of thoroughbreds by purchasing fractional shares, including Kentucky Derby winner Mage. It is heartbreaking to see a Preakness winner like Rombauer is having trouble finding the right spot to start his stallion career.
Would fractional ownership be a possibility for Rombauer? Yes…the financial boost from selling fractional shares could increase his presence. The fractional ownership continues to expand with new opportunities, especially in helping the Fradkins.
It would be a shame to see Rombauer miss his opportunity to produce foals.
