(6-17-22) For Stevensville, Michigan native and 2018 Lakeshore grad Regan Holgate it has been a week to remember in her sports broadcasting career.
On Wednesday Holgate learned that she had won the Lisa Byington Award as the top Big 10 StudentU broadcaster. It is the first year for the award to be presented.
Holgate, a 2022 Michigan State graduate, in winning the award is recognized as this year’s most outstanding female broadcaster in the Big Ten Network StudentU program.
About Lisa Byington
Byington, a 1997 Northwestern graduate, was a two-sport student-athlete for the Wildcats in basketball and soccer. She has been at Big Ten Network since the network’s inception in 2007 and has broadcast numerous Big Ten sports for BTN in that time. Byington also became the first female play-by-play broadcaster for Big Ten football in 2017 and the first female play-by-play voice for an NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament game in 2021. In September 2021, she was chosen as the first female play-by-play television broadcaster for an NBA franchise, having joined the broadcast team for the NBA world champion Milwaukee Bucks.
To celebrate her award Holgate joins Eyewitness News (WTVO/Fox 39) in Rockford, Illinois this weekend as Sports Anchor/Reporter. She has a busy weekend scheduled when she will be anchoring all of the sportscasts on Saturday and Sunday.
Regan is a graduate of Michigan State University. She majored in Journalism with a double minor in sports and broadcast journalism. While at MSU, she interned at local affiliate WILX and spent a summer in New Brunswick, NJ as the Digital Media and Broadcast intern for the United States Golf Association. While at MSU Holgate work at the Big Ten Network Student U as a student worker and sideline reporter.
Besides he recent award…she has received two student Emmys from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Michigan chapter; one for her on-camera work and the other for her sports reporting.
