(1-24-22) At 9:35 PM, neighbors called 911 to report that a mobile home located at River Springs Estates, 9387 Old US 31 Hwy., located in the Township of Berrien was on fire and that an elderly man lived at the home.

Police units arrived and were not able to enter the mobile home due to flames and thick smoke. Pipestone-Berrien-Eau Claire Fire Department with the assistance of Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township Fire Department, put out the fire.

The burnt remains of an individual were found inside the mobile home.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division is conducting the cause and origin portion of the investigation, while the Western Michigan Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the deceased and determine a cause of death.
