(10-12-20) On 10/11/2020 at approximately 8:03 pm the Cas County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a personal injury crash near the intersection of Dutch Settlement Rd and East Street in Penn Township.

Deputies arrived on scene and no victim was located near the motorcycle. Cass County Central Dispatch received a 911 call advised that a subject started to walk up a driveway in the 16000 block of Marcellus Hwy but left in an unknown direction.

Cass County K9 “Faust” was requested to attempt and locate the injured subject. K9 Faust tracked the subject in a thick wooded area approximately 1/4 mile from the crash scene and located the driver with an obvious head injury laying in a ditch.

Travis Herman (28) of Marcellus was traveling East bound on Dutch Settlement Road. Herman ran off the roadway and struck several trees on the side of the road. Herman was transported, by ambulance, to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Herman was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Speed may have been a factor in the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash.
