Port St

(12-15-19) On Sunday December 15, 2019 at 6:32 am, the Saint Joseph Department of Public Safety responded to a report of a one vehicle roll-over traffic crash on Port St. at Wayne St. in the City of Saint Joseph.

The officers determined that four subjects were in the vehicle at the time of the traffic crash and it appears that two individuals were ejected from the vehicle at the time of the crash.

One individual was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other three individuals were transported to Spectrum Lakeland Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that these four individuals may have been involved in an altercation at Blossom Acers Housing Complex in the Township of Benton.  The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety is currently working with the Benton Township Police Department and following up on leads to determine if any of the injuries sustained by these individuals where the result of the traffic crash or the previous altercation in Benton Township.  The names of the injured and deceased individuals are not being released at this time pending notification of family members.

The Saint Joseph Department of Public Safety is being assisted in this investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff Department, Michigan State Police, Benton Harbor Police Department, Benton Township Police Department, Medic I and Western Michigan University, Medical Examiner.

The cause of the traffic crash is being conducted by the Saint Joseph Department of Public Safety in conjunction with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.

Further information, such as the make and model of the vehicle and the names and ages of the individuals will be released at a later date/time as this investigation continues.
