(10-16-19) On Tuesday October 15th at approximately 7:45 PM a broadcast was put out by the Berrien County Public Safety Dispatch Center regarding a GMC Savana Van that was eastbound on US-12 driving erratically near the Michigan state line.Deputy Hureskin with theNew Buffalo Township Patrol was able to locate the vehicle on US-12 traveling eastbound with a Long Beach Police patrol vehicle behind it. Deputy Hureskin took over the pursuit and had his emergency lights and siren activated. The suspect, a 46 old man from Michigan, Indiana,  failed to stop and was traveling 25 to 30 mph and driving erratically. The suspect failed to stop for police until it collided with a New Buffalo City Police patrol vehicle atthe intersection of US-12 near Whittaker Street in the City of New Buffalo.

Officers attempted to remove the suspect driver from his vehicle and he was not compliant. During this encounter officers learned from the subject that his blood sugar level was low.

Medic One Ambulance was requested and confirmed that the subject’s blood sugar level was low and he was treated by paramedics.

The driver was transported to Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in St Joseph where further medical treatment was obtained.
