(9-25-19) On Tuesday September 24th at approximately12:36 am Officer Takemoto of the Buchanan City Police Department attempted to stop a Black Jeep Cherokee with a temporary plate attached to it in the City of Buchanan. The vehicle failed to stop and fled south bound on Bakertown Road where officers lost sight of the vehicle.

A Berrien County Sheriff’s Office south county patrol unit observed the vehicle a short time later traveling westbound on US-12 near Dayton Lake Road. Deputy Higgs attempted to stop the vehicle and again the vehicle failed to stop and continued westbound on US-12.

The suspect vehicle traveled westbound through Galien and Three Oaks failing to stop for police.

New Buffalo Twp patrol Deputy Huddleston set up stop sticks at US-12 near Lakeside Road. The suspect vehicle traveled over the Stop Sticks causing the tires to deflate The suspect vehicle speeds slowed but still failed to stop until it hit a sign post and came to a stop on US-12 near I-94. Three suspects fled on foot from the vehicle.

Officers were assisted by LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Hahn and were able to locate two of the suspects hiding in thick vegetation.

The third suspect that fled from the passenger side of the vehicle was not located during the search. Both suspects that were apprehended had felony warrants for their arrest out of Cook County Illinois.

The vehicle was found to be reported stolen from Highland Park, Illinois.

A search of the vehicle found suspected burglary tools hidden under a blanket in the rear of the vehicle.

2015 Jeep Cherokee, 4DR, Black–Reported Stolen from Highland Park IL
CHARGES:
Both subjects were lodged in the Berrien County Jail for outstanding felony warrants
out of Cook County Illinois.
A report is being forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutors Office for the following charges:
  • Fleeing & Eluding Police
  • Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
  • No Valid Operator’s License
