(5-10-19) At approximately 5:26pm on Thursday, May 9, 2019, emergency personnel were dispatched to the St. Joseph Valley Parkway at the 13 mile marker in Oronoko Township southbound on a report of a personal injury crash.
Initial investigation determined that a Jeep Wrangler, towing a trailer, was southbound when a southbound semi ran into the trailer and Jeep Wrangler. Both vehicles ran off the roadway after impact. The Jeep rolled onto its side, slid into several trees, and ejected the front seat passenger. The semi rolled onto its side and also struck several trees entrapping the driver, David John Schultz (58) of Eustis, Florida, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the Jeep Wrangler sustained non-life threatening injuries. The driver was admitted to Lakeland-Spectrum Hospital for observation and the passenger was treated and released.
