(6-25-18) The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office responded to a water rescue call near 2300 Bluff in Niles Township at 6:14pm on Sunday night. Due to the recent heavy rains, the Dowagiac Creek was high and moving at a steady pace. Three females were sharing a single inner tube. The women were not wearing life jackets when their inner tube flipped over. Two of the females struggled to get shore while the third managed to hang onto a tree that had flipped over. Rescue workers pulled all three women to safety.
This was a joint effort between local, state and county police and fire units. The Berrien County Sheriff’s office reminds people to wear personal flotation devices when enjoying water activities and to have a safe summer.
