(6-12-25) As the excitement of the Triple Crown races is done for another year…the summer months of racing continue. Thousands of owners of thoroughbred ‘fractional shares‘ look at their current ‘stable’ to review the ‘ups and downs’.

This year there was no ‘fractional share‘ horses competing in the the BIG 3 races, after a couple of years of success with Mage in the Kentucky Derby and Seize The Grey in the Preakness. If you owned those two you are always looking for the next ‘BIG TIME‘ runner.
Even non-stake race wins can a put a smile on an owner’s face.
Since 2022 NKRS has had runners in 102 races, with 19 wins. Some of those wins include the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Pennsylvania Derby and the Pat Day Mile. Pretty impressive.

Over those years there has been plenty of disappointments as well… including the claiming of our very first share purchase ‘Stay Fabulous‘ ( Violence – Jeanne’s Speight, by Speightstown ). She was initially purchased by MyRacehorse for $150,00 as a horse of racing age.
During this time we’ve had one put down, several have been gelded and injury after injury….EIPH, bone chip and several other causes. Numerous of those were in the care and oversight of Vets for long period of time. Due to these inflictions many were retired and placed in 2nd careers. Frustrating…but it is all a part of the business…no matter what involvement you have with them.
One exciting part of owning ‘fractional shares‘ is the opportunity to own a small part of thoroughbreds with impeccable breeding and some of the best trainers available. BUT…this does not always turn into producing winners….lots of disappointments

An option that continues to grow in the ‘fractional share‘ business is shares in broodmares, including one by MyRacehorse that includes four mares. They were all purchased in foal to quality stallions and bred to Seize The Grey for his first group of future foals. Yes disappointment…already after several attempts with STG Tiffany’s Mo was not pregnant and will not be bred again until to 2026 and will take this time off.

Owning fraction shares allows the owner the opportunity to feel the emotions of thoroughbred racing…good and bad. Depending on how you operate these shares, it is a business. You invest, you earn winnings and many pay taxes on those they get. It is the closest as most of us will ever get.
