(5-30-22) On May 30, 2022, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety (BHDPS) was dispatched to the area of Ajay’s Lounge (999 Pipestone) for multiple reports of gunshots. Upon arrival to the area, officers observed a large number of people at both Ajay’s Lounge (999 Pipestone) and A & D Liquor store (990 Pipestone). Upon initial investigation, officers found that 7 people had been struck by gunfire. All the victims were transported and treated at Lakeland Hospital. There were multiple shell casings all
throughout the area of various calibers.

Officers confirmed one male victim as being deceased. He appeared to have suffered multiple
gunshot wounds to the chest. That victim was identified as Marlon Tyree Bowman (19).

According to an abc57 posting a fight broke out before the shooting due to an argument concerning a ticketed event scheduled for Ajay’s Lounge.

Event goers say they paid $60 to see a Detroit-based rapper, Babyface Ray, perform at the venue. Witnesses said that the rapper only made an appearance and did not perform.

With the amount of people in the area, no one has stepped forward to give a statement as to
what occurred during the shooting.

BHDPS is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of
the suspect or suspects involved in this incident.
