Pat Day Mile 2024 (FULL RACE) | NBC Sports
(5-4-24) Fractional share owners of thoroughbreds had a good Derby Day today.
Seize The Grey, trained by Hall of Fame Trainer D. Wayne Lukas, proved he is a 3-year old to keep an eye on after winning the Pat Day Mile today.
MyRacehorse, one of the most successful fractional share ownership groups, with a win today by STG adds another top ranked addition. Owners were able to celebrate in the winner’s circle today…at least 600 of the share owners were in attendance.
Many of the fractional share owners had hoped this past week that STG, who was on the also eligible list, would be able to draw into the derby field…but it became apparent that was not going to happen. That is when Lukas decided to enter him into the Pat Day Mile. The move worked and STG picked up the impressive win.
Lukas commented about MyRacehorse share owners and what the next step might be for STG –
“I think that the 680 people will want to vote for that.” (he said about entering the Preakness) “My vote’ll be the one that counts, but I’ll vote with them. We’ve got nothing to lose [if] we stick him in there. And he earned his way to run in the Preakness. He’s qualified for it, and he’s nominated for it, so why wouldn’t we give those people that opportunity. That’s what we’re getting paid for, to make that many people happy.”
Owning fractional shares of a thoroughbred won’t guarantee you a run in the Derby or a Triple Crown race…but it gives you an opportunity to know the ‘ups and the downs‘ of owning a horse. Plus many of the horses available to buy shares in are trained by the top trainers in the thoroughbred world.
But…fractional share owners have been very, very fortunate to have ownership in two Kentucky Derby winners…2020 winner Authentic, also the 2020 Horse of the Year and Mage (who is owned fractional share group Commonwealth) won the 2023 Derby. Both stallions are now standing at stud.
The experience is very affordable and quite enjoyable.
