On 03/03/21 at 3:32 pm Deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff Office, along with other first responders, responded to a water rescue on O’Brien Lake (near 8505 Lake Rd Berrien Center) for two subjects that were ice fishing and had fallen through the ice.

Deputies arrived on scene to find that Donald Skibbe (76) from Berrien Township had fallen through the ice and Ryan Huff (59), also from Berrien Township, who was  fishing with Skibbe was on top of the ice holding Skibbe up by a rope.

Deputy Matthew Grimm was able to make his way out on the ice and help keep Skibbe above the water until more help arrived.

After the fire departments arrived on scene with proper rescue equipment all victims were brought to shore with only minor injury and exposure from the cold water.
