(10-9-19) On 10/08/2019 at approximately1:35PM, BHDPS officers responded to a complaint of shots fired near Benton Harbor High School. BHDPS officers responded to the area and found evidence of a shootout that occurred on Empire and in the alley between Empire and LaVette in the 800 Block. During the course of the investigation Officers served a search warrant to a residence one of the suspects from the shooting may have gone into. During this search two firearms and a significant amount of illegal suspected narcotics were located.
BHDPS then turned the firearms and suspected narcotics over to SWET (South West Enforcement Team)for their further investigation. There were three males that were detained during the course of the investigation and they also were turned over to SWET in relation to the search of the house.
During the course of the investigation Benton Harbor High School went into their lock down protocol. This incident however was not at the school nor did it involve any current BHHS Students.
A Burgundy Cadillac sedan was seen in the area at the time shots were fired, BHDPS is seeking the vehicle and driver as they may have been involved.
BHDPS was assisted by Berrien Sheriffs, SWET, and Michigan State Police during the course of this investigation.
