2019 Ohio 8-Man Football Players of the Week

Below are the 2019 Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week based on nominations from schools.

Week 10 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

This week’s Player of the Week is Danbury quarterback Tommy Owens who rushed for 343 yards and five touchdowns  (8, 14, 63, 30 and 10 yards) and ran for 2 two-point conversions in a 52-36 win over Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic.

Special Mention:

SMCC’s Kyle Pelz was 3-of-8 passing for 108 yards and one score, rushing 10 times for 189 yards with touchdowns runs o 44, 27 and 49 yards.

Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans’ Nick Losco rushed for 267 yards and 2 TDs in a 66-24 win over Toledo Christian.

Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans QB Thomas Spohn was 7-11 passing for 100 yards, 12 carries for a 157 yards and 2 TDs

Week 9 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

This week’s Player of the Week is Holgte’s Ethan Altman.  Altman led the undefeated Tigers to a win over Harlan (Ind) Christian 64-6.

Altman had 126 yards on 11 carries and 3 TDs, had one reception for 44 yards.

On defense he had 7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and one interception for 45 yards and a TD.

Special Mention:

Bishop Rosecrans’ Thomas Spohn rushed for 223 yards on 15 carries for 3 TDs, added 2 passing TDs and a total of 343 yards.

Toledo Christian’s Charlie Duck completed 7 of 11 passes for 213 yards and 3 TDs in the Eagles’ 56-14 win over Waldron (Mich).

Week 8 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

 

This week’s Player of the Week is Bishop Rosecran QB Thomas Spohn who threw for 128 yards, ran for another 251 yards, caught two passes for 93 yards and accounted for six of the Bishops’ seven touchdowns

Special Mention:

Toledo Christian’s  Solomon Sandoval caught 10 passes for 120 yards, had TD receptions of 66 and 15 yards

Toledo Christian’s  Trevor Wensink threw three TD passes and two scoring runs, completed 20 of 36 passes for 231 yards,  169 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Ashtabula St. John’s Caleb Hill completed 10 of 14 passes for 118 yards and a score
rushed for 92 yards on 11 carries.

Holgate’s QB Gavyn Kupfersmith  threw several TD’s passes in the Tigers win over Bishop Rosecrans

Week 7 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

This week’s Player of the Week is Toledo Christian’s Trevor Wensink passed for 287 yards and five touchdowns in the Eagles 64-14 win over Stryker. It is the 2nd time this season he has won the award.

Special Mention:

David Koonce (Toledo Christian) scored on a 12-yard run and had a 44-yard interception for a touchdown.

Week 6 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

This week’s Player of the Week is Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic’s  Kyle Pelz who ran for 99 yards, threw for 71 yards and intercepted two passes on defense.  The Panthers beat Ashtabula St. John 34-14, it was their first win in 8-man football.

Special mention:

Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic’s  Cooper Barone ran the ball 12 times for 74 yards and three touchdowns

Week 5 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

This week’s Player of the Week is Bishop Rosecrans’ Thomas Spohn who led the Bishops to a 60-8 win over Ashtabula St. John.

Spohn rushed for a 110 yards and three TDs,  had a 59 yard reception for a TD, was 2 of 6 passing for 61 yards and two more scores (Malakai Clark caught a 51-yard TD pass).

Special Mention:

Bishop Rosecrans’ Nick Losco ran 15 times for 160 yards and a score

Week 4 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

Toledo Christian QB Trevor Wensink accounted for seven TDs in the Eagles 54 to 42 win over Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans. He was 10 of 20 passing for 229 yards and three scores, had a 172 yards on the ground in 12 carries and four scores.

Special Mention:

Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans Thomas Spohn was 2 of 5 passing for 50 yards and two scores, he rushed for 129 yards on 10 carries and added 65 yards on three catches. He was a part of four TDs in the 4th quarter.

Week 3 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

 

(9-17-19) Holgate’s Ethan Altman led the Tigers to a key win over Toledo Christian 66-44  in the battle of Ohio’s 8 Man Football.

Altman did everything except drive the bus to the game, he was 1 for 1 passing for 33 yards, he had 17 Carries for 330 yards and 5 TD’s  and was 2 for 2 receiving for 18 yards and 1 TD.

Altman has won the award two weeks in a row.

Week 2 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

(9-10-19)  This week’s Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week is Holgate’s Ethan Altman (6’1, 180 Sr). Altman led the Tigers to a 44-0 win over Ashtabula St. John.  3 Touchdowns, 88 yard rushing Touchdown, 2 Receptions for 82 yards, 48 yard receiving touchdown, and a 78 yard scoop and score.

Notethe above game was called midway through the third quarter after a serious injury to an Ashtabula St. John player.

Special Mention:

Toledo Christian QB Trevor Wensink led the Eagles to a 64-47 win over  Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic. Wensink was 12 of 13 for 428 yards 6 touchdowns, he added 7 tackles on defense.

Week 1 – Ohio 8-Man Football Player of the Week

Solomon Sandoval

(9-3-19) Solomon Sandavol led Toledo Christian on both sides of the football and special teams, to an opening game win over Harlan (Ind) Kings Crusaders 52-30.

Sandoval returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, two 75-yard punt returns

210 yards from scrimmage 3 TD’s.
1 75 yard kickoff return and 2 75 yard punt returns for TDs
7 tackles 2 for loss and 1 Interception
