UPDATED:

On Monday October 1, 2018 at approximately 9:15 PM Scott Nathaniel Skinner was arrested for Child Abuse & Neglect based on the initial reports from the treating physician of the child. Scott Skinner was lodged at the Berrien County Jail on the above charge.

The preliminary report from the autopsy that was performed today was inconclusive as to the cause of death and additional medical testing will need to be completed. Based on the additional testing that is needed the Prosecutors Office did not authorize any charges on Scott Skinner at this time. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate this suspicious death. The information gathered during this investigation including the additional medical testing will be forwarded to the Prosecutors Office for review.

Based on the charges not being authorized, Scott Nathaniel Skinner has been released from the Berrien County Jail.

This incident remains open pending further investigation and no additional information will be released at this time.

(10-3-18) On Monday October 1, 2018 officers were dispatched to a medical call at 5100 Little Paw Paw Lake Road in Coloma Township in reference to a medical call involving a two month old child. Upon arrival officers found the incident to be suspicious in nature and detectives were called to assist with the investigation.

The two month old child was transported to Watervliet Hospital by Pride Care Ambulance and later transferred to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. The two month old child passed away at approximately 5:30 PM on Tuesday October 2, 2018. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today at Western Michigan University School of Medicine.

This incident is remains under investigation and no additional details are available at this time. An updated press release will be generated once the autopsy is completed and additional information is obtained.
