On 2/1/18 at approximately 5:06 pm, Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Walmart store located on S. 11th St. in the Township of Niles in regards to a report of a Retail Fraud in progress.

When the officers arrived on scene, they observed a female subject, who was later identified as Da Sha Thompson (Benton Harbor), running in the parking lot, while attempting to evade Loss Prevention Officers of Walmart.
The Deputy than noticed Da Sha Thompson had entered a 2006 Mercury and begin to drive away.
This 2006 Mercury struck two parked and unoccupied vehicles in the Walmart store parking lot, prior to the vehicle proceeding south-bound on S. 11th St. The deputy activated the emergency lights and siren on the squad car and began to attempt to catch up with the Mercury. The Mercury was observed to be traveling on S. 11th St. at a high rate of speed, and weaving in and out of traffic.
The Mercury than attempted a right turn (west-bound) onto Ontario Rd. from S. 11th St., when the Mercury struck a 2001 Audi, which was stopped at the traffic signal and which was occupied by two males (a 23 year old and a 37 year old, both from South Bend, IN.)

At this time, Da Sha Thompson exited the Mercury Marnier and surrendered to the officer.  Da Sha Thompson was the sole occupant of the Mercury.

#1: Retail Fraud 2nd Degree.

#2: Reckless Driving.

#3: Fleeing & Eluding a Police Officer 3rd Degree.

She was taken into custody and lodged at the Berrien County Jail on the above mentioned charges.

Da Sha Thompson and the two males from South Bend, were checked out by SMACAS ambulance personnel at the scene.

No injuries were sustained by Da Sha Thompson or the two males.
