(7-25-25) Wise Counsel was born with all of the right ingredients to be an accomplished runner, a top sire in Curlin and his dam was a top broodmare Akron Moon.
He was what everyone would have thought was a sure thing.
Yet Wise Counsel, after just two races was retired and is now looking to start a new career.
Sometimes it takes more then the breeding to make a winner.
Curlin is widely considered one of the top sires in Thoroughbred horse racing.
Here’s why:
- Champion Progeny: Curlin is known for siring champions and Grade 1 winners, including three Eclipse Award winners in 2022 (Elite Power, Malathaat, and Nest) and three again in 2023 (Cody’s Wish, Idiomatic, and Elite Power).
- Breeders’ Cup Success: He’s a leading sire at the Breeders’ Cup with eight wins total, including three winners in both 2022 and 2023.
- High-priced progeny at auction: Curlin’s offspring command top dollar at auctions. At the 2024 Keeneland auction, a Curlin colt sold for a record $5 million, the highest price of the event.
- Leading Sire Statistics: He consistently ranks among the top North American sires by earnings, with statistics reflecting a high percentage of winners and impressive stakes success.

AKRON MOON: HIP 208 FTNOV—Wed, 10/24/2018
Akron Moon’s current two-year-old, Bellafina, was an $800,000 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Two-Year-Old in training purchase and has shown herself to have been a bargain at that. The current leader of the juvenile filly division, Bellafina broke her maiden with a 4¼ lengths victory in the Sorrento Stakes (G2). The Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1) saw Bellafina in equally untouchable form, as she drew off for another 4¼ length triumph, leaving the highly-rated Mother Mother and Brill in her wake. Bellafina was even more dominant in the Chandelier Stakes (G1), strolling to a 6½ lengths victory, in her first test around two turns. Bellafina now owns the highest Beyer (94) and Equibase (105) Speedfigures for a two-year-old filly in 2018, and is clear morning line favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
