(9-19-20) On 9/18/20 at 9:29 pm, Deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Cadillac that was struck by an Amtrak train in the 3400 Block of Pier Rd near Lynch Rd, in Hager Township.


The vehicle had driven off of the road/railroad crossing and had gotten hung up/stuck on the tracks. The driver left the vehicle, prior to it being struck by an Amtrak train. Witnesses saw the driver flee from the area after the vehicle was struck.


There was considerable damage to the vehicle and also damage to the Amtrak train.


Railroad crossing lights were flashing, the crossing arms were down, and the train was blowing its horn.


No one was injured. Investigation is ongoing.
